Little Books

Little Books are one-of-a-kind personal history books with text and photographs. They often celebrate a unique moment in time, such as a birthday, a coming-of-age ceremony, a wedding, or a retirement. They also document a unique period in time, such as an adoption, a youngster's early years, an illness, or a summer experience.

Little Books are custom designed and custom written, and are usually bound in a modified Japanese style. Clients choose their own textiles, leather, and papers.

We have created four Little Book formats:

• A Child's Book
• Tribute Book®
• Bereavement Book

Celebration Books ®
Celebration Books® honor a loved one with text and graphics collected from friends and family members. Inspired by festschrift books (essays regarding an individual's scholarly contributions), our Celebration Books® are often presented on special occasions. But sometimes they are given simply to show deep appreciation of an individual or couple.

We help you collect material from your friends and family, and put it all together for a "Lexus" of scrapbooks. Your Celebration Book® is bound by hand in leather, textiles, or book papers.

We call these "Sam" books for "Play It Again, Sam", our prototype Celebration Book®, created for a friend's 75th birthday.

A Child's Book
A Child's Book explores a young person's formative years. Modern Memoirs works closely with you to create a compelling record of what makes your child unique. A Child's Book is typically 35 pages, with a unique array of anecdotes, observations, photographs, and drawings. Memorabilia such as birth announcements and adoption papers are often included.

These books are meaningful for all children but are vitally important for families of children who were adopted, whether from the U.S. or a different country.

We call these books "Noelle" after our prototype for a delightful three-year-old friend, but most children who have their own Child's Book say, "My Book!"

Tribute Book®
A Tribute Book® is a collection of photographs, eulogies, and letters of condolence, handbound to honor the memory of a loved one in the words of family and friends. In the course of working with the families of Sept. 11 victims, we have expanded our definition of the Tribute Book® to more closely resemble traditional (Jewish) zachor books. Thus, they can include an extended life overview or profile and numerous photographs.

Bereavement Book
A Bereavement Book is a private book of your memories and reflections concerning the deceased, whether it be a recent death or one in the distant past. This book often includes thoughts on your own experience so far in the grieving process. Bereavement Books honor the deceased while taking into account your own feelings.
